Addictive TV's Slumdog Millionaire remix meanwhile is going from strength to strength, spreading far and wide, finding itself reported on, posted, and blogged on countless sites across the web, including the homepage of MSN, the Oscars/Golden Globe film awards site awardsdaily.com and the incredibly popular filmschoolrejects.com site who said "If you thought Slumdog was an energetic and fun film (one of the best of the year, mind you), you’ll be surprised to see that it gets better in the hands of the Addictive TV team."

Christian Matts, "Sorry, I'm not here right now"

At the core the installation is a simple projected live camera feed. However it plays with your expectations as it is delayed and affected by the motion in the video. Increased motion will increase the delay, echo effects and sound. Less motion makes the video run in real time. The piece explores ideas about how we view art and if art exists void of an audience. Christian Matts is a Brooklyn based video and motion graphics artist.

Director/animators Syd Garon and Paul Griswold, recently co-directed a music video for the band NASA (North America South America). The song, titled Money, features Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winning singer/songwriter David Byrne and Chuck D, leader of the rap group Public Enemy.

The presentation is about "How to be creative and get paid." Specifically, as it pertains to the conference... "How to be a Motion Graphics Artist"

It is focused towards students and amateurs trying to break in to the Mograph scene and professionals that want to better their craft.

What questions will be answered by the presentation?
   What classes should I take?
   How do I market myself?
   I'm about to graduate. How do I get my first job?
   Do I need school?
   I'm the best at my job... Now what?
   How do I learn the skills necessary to become an artist?

What should we know before we arrive?

Attendees need only passion for becoming a motion graphic artist to attend. There will be a Q&A section, so bring some questions.

Why are You speaking about this topic?

I am speaking about this because I see a disconnect between the information that is taught in schools and what is required to be working in the real world. Many people ask me how to get a job doing what I do, this presentation will answer that.

Why will it be awesome?

I have worked in many creative capacities, including as a Motion Designer, Photographer, Album Producer, and Web Designer. I can show you how to make a living and love your job by doing what you are passionate about.

The Legendary $7 Festival of 2009

Don't miss this Chicago Convergence Partner event (Chicago, IL, December 1, 2008) - With MacWorld recently announcing they are closing their doors for good and Midway laying off 150 full-time employees... the recession of 2009 is beginning to infect the minds of the creative industry with decreasing budgets and bottom lines. The festival's "Motion Market" offers attendees significant discounts on DVD collections of audio/video art and Motion Graphics work, technical training books, workshops, video hardware and software upgrades. Plus over $10,000 in free software will be given away as door prizes. All events require an RSVP on the MGFest website, which also grants access to several online-only events that occur during the festival week. While Chicago is home to the Motion Graphics Festival, this year MGFest tours to four other cities nationally. In 2009, MGFest will visit Cambridge, Massachusetts, Austin, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia and Washington DC. "Chicago is, and always will be, the heart of MGFest. Chicago Film and Tech Converge

(Chicago, IL, December 1, 2008) – The “city of Big Shoulders” is about to assert business leadership again, as a center for technology. Coming up this January, the 2009 Chicago Motion Graphics Festival and the Chicago Convergence produces seven days of events about the mergers of technology, entertainment, advertising, media, and more.

“The frontier of motion pictures has shifted from films and television towards ipods, computer games and personal technology,” said Mason Dixon, founder of the six-year-old festival. “If you look at film as just being Hollywood, then of course California and New York have a lot to offer, but when you include games, music, advertising and Internet technology, Chicago really outshines other cities.”

Earlier this year, The Chicago Convergence, began its efforts to pioneer Chicago as the New Media Capital, presenting the 2016 Olympics as the New Media Olympics, and Chicago as the best home for it. The Chicago Convergence will be run a day of panels and presentations as the Technology portion of the Chicago Motion Graphics Festival in 2009.

“Chicago had the ‘Chicago School of Television’, and led the way in network radio and data transmission. Chicago continues to play a leading role amid a seismic shift in entertainment options. This festival is an essential part of the town’s leadership in this field,” said Dixon.

Computer based games have overtaken conventional movies in revenue and sales, and Chicago is home to 3 of the 10 largest advertising companies in the world, Leo Burnett, DraftFCB and DDB. Many claim Obama’s online efforts played a significant role in his campaigns fund-raising and Get Out The Vote operations. The Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau for the first time integrated live video projection and new media elements into their annual Burnham Bash by working with the audio/visual event engineers known as Psymbolic. After Obama’s election, one of the Tourism Bureau’s newest ventures, ExploreChicago.org, will be expecting a lot of new visitors.

The Chicago Motion Graphics Festival runs from Monday, January 19^th to Sunday January 25^th in various locations across downtown Chicago.

Our Next Collision: The 2009 Motion Graphics Festival

The Chicago Convergence is continuing to look for ways to promote the events that forward our general intent: "Where talent, ideas and code collide", and we are working with the Motion Graphics Festival and festival founder, Mason Dixon, to expand the reach and awareness of the festival.

The Convergence is 'open arms' to these kinds of partnerships and this is in fact the point of our existence.  Not only will we have our annual event (Scheduled for September 21-23, 2009 at the Museum of Contemporary Art), but we are supporting grassroots to large-scale events in 2009.

Nov 20th is the Microsoft PhizzPop Challenge and next June is the HD Expo, were The Convergence collides with this annual event to create a landmark networking event.  There is also talk of a grassroots think tank emerging for a December Forum.
