Retirement may be soon or it may seem far into the future. If you are like most people today, you are part of an instant gratification culture and live in a ‘borrow from the future’ modality; purchasing things you don’t really need and therefore not saving – or – purchasing things on credit.
This is not personal to you but rather the narrative of the baby-boomers who just got born into it.
If you continue working as you are, you are unlikely to save enough money…and the market, which is indifferent to your sincerity or hard work, will replace you with someone who is younger and costs less.
This is not personal to you either. The marketplace simply is, like water, seeking to level itself. The older you get, the less benefit you are to the marketplace which is why you are not the primary target for advertising…and unless you have a lot of wealth, you will become of little use to the market.
The movies and television would have you believe that because you are sincere, special, heroic or ‘have rights’ that the marketplace should care about you. It simple does not.
So, you see, you are screwed.
The clock is ticking, your income is likely fixed, and you won’t save enough. You’d better make a bold move to accumulate wealth or you can simple keep pretending that ‘something will happen’ someday…maybe, to take care of your present and your future.
I am aggregating an ‘ecology’ of a few professionals who are committed to building wealth for themselves. It is a developmental ground for training in transactional narratives to increase the value of our individual and cumulative offers in the marketplace.
